About the Project

Kennebunk Land Trust (KLT) is creating a one-mile, out-and-back accessible trail at Alewive Woods Preserve in West Kennebunk. Designed for individuals using wheelchairs, pushing strollers, living with limited mobility, or simply seeking a peaceful, obstacle-free walk, this trail will open the outdoors to more people.

The trail will feature:

  • A firm, stable 5-foot-wide surface

  • Gentle grades for easy navigation

  • Handicap-accessible parking at the trailhead

  • Rest areas with benches

  • Educational signage and wayfinding

  • Accessible picnic tables and emergency location markers

Located within KLT’s flagship preserve with over 500 acres with five miles of existing trails, this new accessible trail will offer an inclusive, welcoming way to experience nature.

Why Accessible Trails Matter

Traditional trails are often narrow, uneven, and steep, limiting access for people with mobility challenges, families with strollers, etc. Improved access trails help bridge this gap, providing safe, comfortable ways for more community members to enjoy the outdoors.

Leave Your Mark on the Trail!

Your Logo Here! Post

We’re excited to offer a special opportunity to sponsor a handcrafted Trail Marker Post on our new accessible trail!

What are wayfinding posts? Wayfinding posts are placed along the trail at frequent intervals to show how far you’ve walked. This helps everyone feel more comfortable by letting you check in with yourself—how you’re feeling, how far you’ve come, and how much farther you may want to go. The markers are an important accessibility feature, offering reassurance and guidance so that all visitors can enjoy the trail at their own pace.

Sponsoring a post is a meaningful way to:
-Support an accessible trail for all
-Celebrate your family, business, or organization
-Leave a lasting, unique mark in nature!
